Physical challenges to tackle for charity in 2022

Are you entering the New Year full of energy and looking to take on a new challenge? Or are you looking for something to motivate you to get off that couch, get moving and combat the excess of the festive period? Whatever your reason may be for looking, here are just a few to inspire you to push yourself out of your comfort zone for a good cause.

You can raise money for a number of different charities at some of these events, so check out a cause close to your heart and discover if they have dedicated pages for your chosen challenge.

The London Winter Walk

Taking place on 29-30 January 2022, why not kick-start a new year with a full or half marathon walk around London? Starting and finishing at the Oval Cricket Ground, you can either walk a distance of 42km or 21km. Even better news: there’s no jogging or running allowed, so you enjoy a scenic walk at your own pace. There are a wide range of charities that have their own sponsorship pages for the London Winter Walk, such as Macmillan Cancer Research and Help for Heroes.

Crisis Icebreaker, Bicester

Take an icy plunge at the Bicester Hotel and Spa on 29 January 2022 and raise money to help the homeless with Crisis. Your registration fee will support someone who is homeless in Oxfordshire to receive hot food, warmth and a range of advice and well-being services. There are additional Icebreakers in Tooting and Parliament Hill in January.

Walkie Talkie Tower Climb

Raise money for seriously ill children at Great Ormond Street Hospital by sprinting, running or walking up the Walkie Talkie Tower on 5 March 2022. It’s only 36 floors and 896 steps… what could possibly go wrong? You’ll receive a celebratory drink and enjoy a spectacular view of London once you’ve completed your challenge.

RideLondon-Essex 100

Fancy an extended bike ride on roads free of traffic? Why not take part in the RideLondon-Essex 100 on 29 May 2022 and enjoy some beautiful countryside and cityscapes for 100 miles – if you’re not out of puff, that is. Mind and Brain Tumour Research are just two of the charities you can fundraise for through this challenge.

Swimathon

There’s 450 venues to choose from to complete Swimathon 2022. Held on 6-8 May, there is a variety of distances you can tackle – from 400m to an epic 30.9km! The official charity partners are Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie, so dive right in and start perfecting the stroke of your choice (ours would be butterfly, if we knew how to do it.)

Tough Mudder

Put yourself and your washing machine to the test with a Tough Mudder challenge! You can choose to attempt the course for one of their charity partners, or for one that’s close to your own heart. At the end of the day, your mucky miles will have done some good – even If your running gear is never quite the same afterwards.

If all this sounds far too taxing, why not download the Toucan app and do some good from the comfort of your couch. With thousands of charities and causes to support, the power to be someone’s hero is in your hands.
